Where practicable and possible, the visual should include all timber structures, fences, trees and stumps within the property boundaries, up to a distance of 30 meters from the main building. Termite nests are generally concealed and usually difficult or impracticable to locate.

After the discovery of an active infestation, it is important that the termite workings are not further disturbed until the proposed method of management has been determined. Premature attempts to treat, repair or replace infested timber may cause the termites to withdraw from the area temporarily, thereby hindering affective management.

The inspection should include an assessment of each of the following areas, as necessary

  1. The interior of the building(s) (excluding furniture and stored items)
  2. The exterior of the building(s)
  3. The roof space
  4. The sub-floor space
  5. The site (including trees, stumps and timbers embedded in soil) within the property boundaries, up to a distance of 30 meters from the main building.
